1: SEASONAL PROGRAM

BUGISU MUSLIM DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (BMDC) Seasonal Programs provide Muslims with the opportunity to give to those in need during the most blessed times of the year as according to the sunnah (tradition) of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.
“The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the path of God is as the likeness of a grain that sprouts seven spikes. In every spike, there are a hundred grains. Thus, does God multiply reward for whomever He so pleases.” (The Holy Quran, 2:261)

1.1: RAMADAN

The blessed month of Ramadan is a time to awaken compassion and solidarity with the hungry and poverty-stricken children, women, and men around the world. BUGISU MUSLIM DEVELOPMENT CENTRE enables Muslim donors to celebrate and give thanks during the month of Ramadan by facilitating food distribution to families in need.

Ramadan is also an activity conducted by a Muslims as one of the pillars of Islam during the holy month of Ramadan 9th month on the Islamic calendar. BMDC collects donations and grants from both development partners and local partners to provide Iftar food and food packages to needy families in rural areas.

During Holy month of Ramadan many Muslim brothers and sisters participate in fasting but they cannot afford Iftar and Sekur, if happens to break their fast they survive on wild games came across on the bushes and others try to move in trading centers or mosques around trading centers and towns. We appeal to all Muslim brothers and sisters to support our needy Muslims during Holy Month with food packages for whole month.

1.2: UDHIYA / QURBANI

During the days of Eid ul-Adha, Muslims have the opportunity to follow the tradition of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon him, to provide fresh halal meat to impoverished families around the world. Through BMDC’S Udhiya/Qurbani Seasonal Program, benevolent Muslims can sponsor shares of cows or sheep to fulfill this great service and celebratory gift to poor families in Uganda including the refugees of South Sudan who are camping in Uganda.
This is done in the last month on the Islamic calendar Dhul-hija to fulfil the traditions of prophet Ibrahim where the rich shares with the poor on the festival days of Eid-al-adha.
BMDC welcomes all those willing to extend a helping hand to needy people in Uganda by sharing their smiles through purchase of cows, goats and sheep to be distributed to vulnerable mosques in rural areas where slaughtering is done and distributed when it is still fresh after Prayer.
BMDC udhiyyah project benefits the following categories of people among which not limited to orphans, poor, disables, widows, widowers, prisoners, elderly and also those in need.

2: WATER & SANITATION

Building a well for communities that don’t have access to clean and safe drinking water can be life-changing. BMDC provides water supplies in the form of water wells and hand pumps to some of the more hard-to-reach places in rural areas of Uganda. However, BMDC did not stop there. Providing residents with clean water is part of the job. Educating them about the benefits of doing so and of the importance of safe hygiene practices is another infinitely important goal of BMDC. We are also instrumental in creating awareness among people and providing them training on safe hygiene practices and maintenance of well systems as well as home hygiene and sanitation.

2.1: DIG A WELL / BOREHOLE / REPAIR / MAINTENANCE

Support a poor village in Uganda with a water well and get endless Baraka “THE BEST CHARITY is giving water to thirsty people” Sa’d ibn ‘Ubadah reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, my mother has died. Shall I give charity on her behalf?” The Prophet, peace and blessings are upon him, said, “Yes.” I said, “Which charity is best?” The Prophet said, “A drink of water.” What about you who digs a full well that can serve entire community for years?

3: HEALTHCARE

BMDC promotes equal access to basic healthcare services so that men and women will be healthy enough to support their families and so that children can thrive and attend school regularly. Particular emphasis is given on medicine and medical supplies. The crisis in South Sudan has resulted in mass casualties and thousands of refugees. There is an ever present need to get people the appropriate medical care, Mosquito nets, and to ensure the injured and wounded have the appropriate medical treatment. Additionally, BMDC ensures the distribution of medical supplies to disaster affected areas.

APPEAL-DISTRIBUTION OF LONGLASTING TREATED MOSQUITO NETS

Donate $200 and support a village with water guard to clean their water.

4: FOOD SECURITY & NUTRITION

BMDC addresses the root causes of poverty through long-term solutions that ensure permanent access to nutritious food. BMDC promotes food security and nutrition in rural households through training while impacting them with skills in modern farming and promoting kitchen gardening. Further, provides inputs like improved seeds and tools to farmers so that they can cultivate for themselves.

Donate $50 and support a family with farm inputs like 10kg improved maize seeds, 10kg beans, and 2 hand hoes.

5: EDUCATION & SKILL TRAINING

Education is vital for an individual’s personal development. Education opens up job prospects and can help those in poverty to earn a living wage and help develop their community. For this reason, BMDC has created numerous programs that teach people specific skills that they can use to find work. BMDC believes that education catalyzes change as it provides the information and skills needed to ensure permanent access to the basic rights of food, water, shelter, health, work and dignity while addressing the roots of chronic poverty and hunger.

Sponsor training for 10 women in tailoring skills as low as $2000 for three months and after training they receive a certificate and one sewing machine.

6: SHELTER & CLOTHING

BMDC uses local resources to establish shelters as well as to provide clothing to those in need to help protect from environmental elements and to preserve human dignity.

Through your donations we distribute clothes to needy children in rural communities especially orphans and all those in need.
“Abu Hurairah (RA) reports that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) stated “Whoever caresses the head of an orphan (in affection), solely for the sake of Allah, a good deed will be written to his account for every hair over which he passed his hand, and whoever treated an orphan (boy or girl) with goodness and kindness, he and I will be close to each-other in Heaven as these two fingers” The Prophet (SAW) made a gesture with his fingers as explained above.”

7: EMERGENCY RELIEF AID

Bugisu Muslim Development Centre (BMDC), carries out emergency aid to areas stricken by natural or man-made disasters through providing emergency relief to victims of hunger, landslide, floods and warzones areas especially in peace restoration areas. Resources funds from its development partners and local partners to provide mattresses, bed sheet, food, mosquito nets, and other home-use materials.

Donate $50 dollars and purchase a victim of disaster with Blankets.

8: AGRICULTURE / LIVELIHOOD

Uganda as a country, its economy depends on agriculture and most of the household’s practices agriculture on subsistence farming and therefore BMDC carries out survey on the most impoverished communities, majorly in rural communities and assess their need. BMDC identifies potential beneficiaries and supports them with trainings in modern farming practices and also in addition provides them with modern improved seeds and tools to enable them cultivate their land, this aims to provide food security among households and also to alleviate poverty and malnutrition. Farmers now days adopted the practice that involve farming for home consumption and commercial gain thus self-resilience and sustainable development
Since the inception of BMDC, continues to expand and reach to as many households as it can to ensure wider coverage of its work. BMDC encourages long-term sustainability for families by providing livestock that can contribute to various aspects of a family’s economic life change.

9: ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

There is no way we can save environment, BMDC tries its level base to make sure that we are environmentally friendly. BMDC emphasizes environmental protection through sensitizing communities on the nature and climate change in community meetings, seminars, and workshops and also raises campaigns in schools. BMDC achieves this through tree planting campaigns and projects that will maintain and conserve our environment steadily.

10: EDUCATION

We highly refer to education as the first priorities in eradicating poverty and reflect a long-term strategy in tackling poverty among the vulnerable communities in Uganda. BMDC focuses majorly in child education starting at early age as is the most crucial stage in human development. Upon the child finishing the primary level will be continued with a sponsorship up to O’ Level where some will be allowed to join Polytechnic colleges to be trained on skills on hands this will reduce on the level of unemployment, as he/she after obtaining a certificate in a skillful course can sustain him/herself through creating self-employed jobs. Those students wish to continue to A’ level will be sponsored and also continues to join Universities but however priorities given mostly to those branching from O’ level and joins colleges.
BMDC tries hard to reach to the most vulnerable communities while empowering caretakers, community people and teachers to strengthen child education through maximum sensitization on the values and benefits of education through parental meetings held at schools and community meetings and seminars.

11: MOSQUE CONSTRUCTION & RENOVATION

BMDC constructs masjids in communities in need of place of worship and also rehabilitate all those in poor conditions. The first thing the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did after migrating to Madinah was, build a masjid. The Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), said: “Whoever builds a Masjid for the sake of Allah, Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise.”
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Among what continues to accrue for a believer of his good works after death are the following: knowledge that he learned and then imparted to others, a pious child whom he left behind, a copy of the Qur’ân that he bequeathed, a mosque that he built, a guest house he built for travelers, a river that he made to flow, and charity he spends from his wealth when he is in good health – all of this continues to avail him after his death.” [Sunan Ibn Majah and Sunan al-Bayhaqî – and graded as good (hasan) by al-Albânî]

11. Qur’an distribution project And Madrassa construction
BMDC promotes Islamic morals among the communities it serves through strengthening Islamic teachings through distribution of Islamic books to madrassa and Mosques so that islamic knowledge is imparted into students and expanded to surrounding communities. Qur’an, yassalnal al qur’an and other books are distributed to madrassa’s and mosques in various communities we serve.
