Our Story

BMDC’s mission is to improve the lives of rural communities through socioeconomic development for self-reliance and empowerment, especially for children, women, the elderly, refugees, and those living with disabilities. The organization maintains programs in the fields of education, orphan care, emergency relief aid, agriculture (livelihood), healthcare, water and sanitation, and environmental protection. BMDC also promotes sustainable development among its beneficiaries by providing food aid, planting material supply (seeds, fertilizers, and tools), healthcare promotion programs, seasonal programs (iftar food aid and qurbani), livelihood for security, and other poverty alleviation strategies.

The northern war caused by The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and cattle-raiding activities by the Karamojong led to unrest and untold suffering throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Thus, communities in northern and eastern Uganda continuously experience loss of life, property damage, animal theft, and devastation of economic activities from agriculture to education. Furthermore, drought and other destructive effects of climatic change result in increased famine, disease outbreak, and poverty. Standards of living in various communities have degraded considerably and left many marginalized below the poverty line. This agitated BMDC to advocates and lobby for resources to serve internally displaced people (IDP), refugees, and poor people living in Uganda’s most vulnerable, war-stricken regions. BMDC was built on the principles and values of Islam to meet the expressed needs of Uganda’s most vulnerable populations regardless of race, color, religion, creed, or tribe. Together we can make a difference, join us and save lives.
